MyDtxt

July 16, 2018

Recently, Marquette University Dining Services implemented MyDtxt. The service is a simple and easy way for students to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, specials, and limited time offers Dining Services has to offer. For example, when one dining location is offering a special pop-up kitchen, a student will get a text; or, when there is a food truck day on campus, students will also receive a reminder text. Sometimes, dining services will even offer special give-a-ways, like pizza for the first 100 people to a location or even a Brew prize bundle. Its purpose is to keep our guests in the loop with events and specials. It is another way to help students get the most out of their meal plan and their dining experience while at Marquette. Students won’t be receiving texts every day. They will be receiving them once a week at the most. Enrolling is easy, all students need to do is text “MUeats” to 82257 to subscribe.

Keeping it Green

July 11, 2018

On June 27, Sodexo received the 2018 Leadership Award for Sustainable Purchasing from the SPLC for its leadership in the sustainable purchasing movement. Sustainable purchasing not only impacts our planet, but our communities and society as well. On a national level, Sodexo has made an effort to take a holistic approach to our purchasing. Here at Marquette, we are also practicing sustainability through several traditional methods. We also have been using OZZI since 2014, giving our students an eco friendly option for take home containers. Additionally, we have been working in collaboration with a composting company to minimize food waste by collecting pre-consumer and post-consumer waste. In an effort to cut back on this waste output, we have also completely eliminated plastic straws, and now only offer paper straws in our dining centers and Brew locations. We also host farmer’s markets throughout the school year as well, where we bring fresh, locally sourced food to students and faculty. Farmers from all over Milwaukee participate, and bring products such as fresh produce, local cheeses and freshly-baked pies. Here at Marquette we are also proud to say that Straz Dining Hall is a Mindful Gold Certified residence dining center which features a Mindful Platinum Certified salad station. These are just a few examples of the steps we are taking to practice sustainability.
